Today, I drove up to the James R. Thompson center for my initial meeting with Secretary White. Once I arrived at the building, I went through security, took an elevator up to the fifth floor, entered his office, and was immediately greeted by his kind secretaries and co-workers. I was escorted to his room. When I walked in, I was astonished. His office was filled with flags, posters, pictures of his baseball career with the Cubs, trophies from the JW Tumblers, and even a picture of him and Barack Obama. Across from his bureau was a circular wooden table circled by four chairs. I walked in to shake his hand, and as I sat down we began to discuss.
We began to discuss where the internship would take me and which program I should join. I summarized to him the Internship program I was in, what I was hoping to achieve as an intern, and what I could offer. The overall conversation lasted about 30 minutes, and I was able to hear some awesome stories from Secretary White. We concluded by the end of the day that I would be interning with Life Goes On.
Overall, his office had such an amicable atmosphere, and I cannot wait to begin my internship. It already seems clear to me that this internship is heading in the right direction. I even got a free t-shirt. (Check it out- image attached below).
