4/28/19 – Sunday
Today, I visited the Naper Settlement to hear the stories of organ transplant recipients, as well as acknowledge those who have passed away and decided to donate in the local community. There, I met up with Connie Boatman, Margaret Pearson, and Jan Eschen. Frequently, regional coordinators such as Margaret and Jan visit local donor events in order to connect with the community. I joined them in this visit, and when I got there, I was moved. Hearing the stories of lost lives saddened me, but the anecdotes of saved lives strengthened in my heart the importance of organ and tissue donation. Throughout the ceremony, stories were told, poems were shared, and lives were acknowledged. At the end, a tree was planted in the yard to signal new life in April, donate life month. Overall, this was a very humbling moment, knowing that one day someone can save my life, and that when I pass away, I can save another.
